Outlaws Leap into First Place with Win over Eagles
11/13/2009 6:57:08 AM
By Mike Unterreiner

The St. Louis Outlaws leaped over the first-place Eagles Tuesday evening, with a 3-2 victory at Kirkwood.  The Eagles had been with only unbeaten and untied team after two games in the B3 division.  But, just as they had done in their previous game, the Outlaws outshot their opponent in every period.  The first period was played at a measured pace until the last few minutes.

The Outlaws closed out a disappointing second half of their 2008-09 season with a solid 5-0 victory over the Eagles.  The Outlaws had begun the season with a 4-2-3 record in their first 9 games, placing them team solidly in playoff contention.  But the Outlaws lost their next game, to the Eagles, and began a 10-game winless streak.

Outlaws Come up 2 Seconds Short against Eagles

In a tight game which neither team ever led by more than one goal, the Eagles scored last and won 4-3 over the Outlaws Tuesday night at Kirkwood.  As usual, the Outlaws spotted their opposition an early goal, as Bob Vallino stood at the side of the Outlaws net and deflected in a pass from Eagles captain Mark Perkins during the second shift of the game.  But before the first period was over,

Outlaws Rally in Third for Come-from-Behind Win

Filling one of the two vacancies on their roster, the Outlaws coaxed former summer team player Tom Carroll out of retirement with a short-term incentive-laden contract over the winter holiday break.  This proved to be a solid acquisition in their first game back against the IceDogs Monday night at Kirkwood.  Carroll played an energetic game, and completed the Outlaws third-period rally by netting the game winning goal with just over three minutes to play in the game.  The Outlaws 2-1 victory moved them into sole possession of second place pending the outcome of a game between the Hornets and Shock played later that night.

Playing without the team’s leading scorer, Joe Wallington, who suffered a cut on his chin in practice a few days earlier, the Outlaws battled to a 2-2 tie against the Eagles Sunday night at Webster Groves.  The games wrapped up the 2008 portion of HNA’s schedule.  The Outlaws head into a two-week holiday break with the unusual record of 3-2-3, an indication of how tight the competition is in this year’s B3 division.

The Outlaws carried a 2-2-2 record into their second matchup of the season the Shock Monday night at the Ice Zone.  The Shock were in first place, having lost only once all year, a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Outlaws.  With an opportunity to creep into a second place tie with the Hornets on the line and knowing that they could handle the otherwise undefeated Shock, the Outlaws wanted to waste no time getting onto the scoreboard.

Outlaws fall behind early, battle back, but lose

Facing the Hornets for the second time this season, the Outlaws found themselves looking up from the bottom of a big hole early in their game Tuesday night.  The Hornets scored on each of the first three shifts of the game, and led 3-0 just over 3 minutes into the game...

Outlaws battle to tie – IceDogs gain first point of season

Having played against all the other teams in HNA’s B3 division once, the St. Louis Outlaws began a second trip through the division with a rematch against the winless IceDogs Wednesday night at the Ice Zone.  Although the IceDogs lost each of their first 4 games, 3 of the losses have been by one goal, including the 4-3 loss to the Outlaws in the season opener.

Outlaws suffer first loss of the season

Your St. Louis Outlaws, previously unbeaten in three games, skated Monday night against a team they had never faced in their history.  The Eagles played in the B4 division last year, and in the B2 division the preceding years.  With a change of goalie – Matt Heath replacing Aaron Cole – and the addition of forward Rich Michalek, the Eagles were able to defeat the Outlaws 2-1 in a fast-paced game.  The Eagles are now the only B3 division team to have recorded at least one point in every game so far this season.

Outlaws Remain Undefeated With Win Over Shock

In their third game of the season, the Outlaws turned on the offense against the Shock Monday night.  After being outshot in the first period 16-6, and surviving with a 1-1 score, the Outlaws turned the tables, outshooting and outscoring the Shock in both the second and third periods to emerge with a 5-2 victory.

Outlaws and Arch Nemesis Hornets Skate to 1-1 Tie

The St. Louis Outlaws played the second game of their season Tuesday at Kirkwood against their long-time rival, the Hornets.  Usual Hornets’ pest Mike Killian did not return to the team this season, opting instead to annoy the Rattler’s opponents in HNA’s C division.  It seemed the tone of the Hornets’ game changed with the loss of Killian, as the visiting team emphasized speed and skill over physical play and stick infractions.

Outlaws Open New Season with Thrilling Victory!

The St. Louis Outlaws opened the 2008-2009 season Monday night with a slightly revamped look, as they replaced three skaters and their goaltender in the offseason.  The game was a pleasantly early 8:45 start at the Ice Zone, which resulted in a 4-3 victory over the Icedogs, who have moved up from the B4 division.
